Saddleback 2005 Pinot Noir
- 5, 10/5, 6, 667, 777 and 115
TASTING NOTE:A classic Pinot Noir made from 81% Central Otago and 19% Marlborough fruit.
The fruit was hand harvested, destemmed to open top fermenters. The fruit was given a 5-7 day cold maceration prior to warm fermentation.
The resulting wine was gently pressed to French oak barrels (8% new, 49% one year old and 43% two years old.) where it spent 9 months. The wine was racked from barrel and lightly filtered before being bottled. No fining was needed
Due to changeable weather during flowering the bunches that the vines produced were very small with very small berries. This fruit has produced a wine with ample concentration. The wine has great depth of colour, bright fruit on the nose. The palate is brimming with sweet berry fruit, violets and spice. With a little time the wine will become more complex as savoury components develop.
Drinking well now with careful cellaring this wine will continue to impress up to 2010.
